IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN AT MY FIRM!  WORKPLACE VIOLENCE AT YOUR DOORSTEP

About the program:

It is difficult to get through any week without reading in the newspaper or seeing a story on television, about an act of work place violence that occurred somewhere in the world.  Workplace violence is a potentially serious risk to any business or firm resulting in the potential for reduced productivity, decreased revenue, increased sick leave and higher turnover due to the stress and potential traumatic after effects of a workplace violence incident.  Not to mention the potential legal liability for a business or firm following an active shooter or workplace violence incident.

Unfortunately, the reality is that most of us do not think acts of workplace violence will happen in OUR workplaces.  This presentation and table top exercise will cover important information for law firm administrators and anyone in a leadership role: from defining workplace violence, discussing the types of workplace violence, the characteristics and warning signs of someone who may be prone to committing violence in the workplace, steps that law firms can take to prevent acts of workplace violence from occurring and finally what to do if an active shooter is in your office or building.

About the speaker:

Kathryn Scourby is the Business Continuity Manager at Hunton & Williams, LLP. An ALA member and legal administrator since 1995, she served on the ALA Board of Directors as the Region 2 Director.  She is currently a FALA trustee. She also served as the Region 2 Communications Officer, and as Knoxville Chapter’s President among other chapter positions. Scourby is a frequent speaker at ALA conferences and local chapters on disaster recovery issues.
