In most cases, we feel before we think. At a minimum you might say that we feel and think at the same time because the sequence often occurs in milliseconds. In many cases then, our emotions will drive our behavior especially when we are faced with a crisis. In today’s complex and challenging environment, we are constantly feeling threatened in one way or another. Stress is inherent in leadership positions.
This is how emotional intelligence can play a crucial role in our success. Emotional intelligence enables us to monitor our hot buttons so we don’t fly off the handle. Developing self-awareness and self-management enables us to capitalize on our strengths. Understanding others enables us to work more effectively in groups, teams and within our organizations. These are the positive outcomes we want.
In this session you will learn how the application of core concepts of emotional intelligence can improve team effectiveness. Be ready for self-reflection and brief activities intended to help you internalize these concepts. Be open to experimenting with them back at your organization.
